Why do solid wood products react the way they do?

The choice of buying a natural material over one made by man you are letting mother nature do the design work. A trees growth and grain pattern are greatly influenced by location and weather conditions. The variations in grain determine light and dark patterns in the finishing process. Heartwood and sapwood (on the outer edge of the tree) vary in color and are natural characteristics of the trees growth. Just a reminder, if it is too perfect it's probably not real wood.
